Ironically,
I loved discovering that “amateur” means “lover” in Latin. Maybe this is common knowledge, and I’m just
behind the eight ball. Either way, I like it.
I also really appreciate this article for pointing out all the exciting
reasons why amateur filmmakers should be not be discouraged for not having the
means, equipment, and experience that professionals have. I really think that this article promotes a sense
of self-motivation that will come in handy when newer filmmakers may get in a
jam. Deren’s outlook on being an amateur or beginning filmmaker seems to be a
very inspirational outlook on our journeys to reaching our goals.
